Beautiful Sun Rise? Nope.

Standard

I LOVE the beach.  The sound of the waves and the sand between my toes.  I would be very happy if I had a beach house.  If you have a free one that you would love to give me, I’d be more than happy to take it off your hands. 🙂

So I was in Cancun, Mexico to be part of a wedding.  One of my good friends asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, and of course I said yes.  I’ve been to Cancun several times before, but I’d never been to a wedding on the beach.  Needless to say I was excited.  Now this resort where we stayed….wow.  The Dreams Riviera knows exactly how to put on a wedding.  In fact, they have 2 to 3 weddings a day there.  Getting married on the beach at sunset?  Gorgeous.  Simply gorgeous.

One of the things on my Freedom List is to see the sun rise on a beach.  What a perfect opportunity to do this since I was in Cancun!  I knew when I was going that I wanted to wake up early one morning and see the sun rise.  There’s something about seeing the sun rise over the ocean’s horizon.  So on my last morning in Cancun, I woke up at 5:45am and headed down to the beach.  The only other people up and about at that time were the workers.  It was so calm and serene.

Picture it.  The vast ocean in front of you.  The sand between your toes.  The only sound you here are the waves lapping along the shore.  Wait, scratch the last one.  Um, that didn’t happen.  Let me back up and tell you exactly what happened.

I was down on the beach with my camera all ready to take a beautiful picture of the sun rising over the ocean’s horizon.  My flip flops were dangling from my hand as I was walking along the shore, letting the water tickle my feet.  The clouds were out in full effect all along the horizon.  The sun started peeking through the clouds.  I got my camera all ready, but my camera lens was completely foggy.  Before during the trip it only took my lens about 5 minutes to adjust from the cold air conditioning to the extreme humidity outside.  However, this morning, my camera was having none of it.  You couldn’t see a thing through my lens.  Nada.  Zilch.  Zippo.  But it didn’t really matter anyway because you couldn’t see the sun through the clouds.  You could only see tiny slivers.  I was SO disappointed.  And the calm and serene quiet of the morning?  Didn’t happen either.  The sand zamboni machine (just like the ice zamboni machine but for sand to make it all pretty) was going back and forth on the sand right where I was.  And boy was it loud.  So….I decided to just walk along the shore and have a nice chat with God.  He always loves chatting with me.  It was amazing to think that He created the ocean.  Just by saying it.  It comforted me to think that He is the ultimate creator.  I get so worked up sometimes thinking that God has forgotten about me (remember I’m 39 and single and I was there to be in a wedding).  But in that moment in time, I felt like God was telling me that He knows what He’s doing.  I don’t have to worry that I’m too old or work at an elementary school and therefore don’t meet many eligible, single men.  God can talk to us through anything…a friend’s words, a song, a book, etc.  And to make sure that I completely understood how God can work, my daily devotional yesterday was exactly on that very thought, that God is constantly working behind the scenes on our behalf.  Keep an attitude of faith and expectancy.  Have faith in God and don’t throw away your confidence.  When I read that, I cried.  Thank you God.  Don’t you just love how God works?

I would LOVE to hear your “God stories”.  Please share!

Since I couldn’t get a picture of the “beautiful” sun rise, here is a picture of the ocean from my balcony view.  Isn’t it gorgeous?
